A Letter From the Field

10 October 2018

Dear Martha,

The morning sun rises an hour after our platoon has already broken our fast, even though you wouldn't really know it with the dense snowstorm whirlwinding wildly about. The cold winter winds ave come early this year, blowing away many a good man and even our trusty mobile home had to be exchanged for a sturdier steed. We lost a lot of good men out there dear Martha. Our regiment has been far abroad, homeless for 9 weeks now and the days have grown shorter and colder since we first deployed. Many in the regiment dream of the comforts of home to help pass the time in their tents while snowflakes fall fast and heavy all around outside, as they often do at 10,000 feet elevation. We're stationed on some mountain no doubt named after some great person named Elbert and next week we head north. The wildlife at this time of year has been scarce with only recent sightings of stags and hares. It's been long since we've seen any moose or elk and there's been no evidence of lions or bobcats, but one must think that's how they want it, and one can only hope the bears have started hibernating so I can finally eat my poptarts at peace in my tent. And the last thing our company needs as we near completion is a bear raiding our supply. Sustenance off our peanut butter burritos grows more dire as the hardship increases, but that can only be my fault as I'm not that creative of a cook, but then again there's hardly been a better taste than peanut butter. Winter is coming, but our journey is coming to a close. May God bless us so we survive.

Love,

Travis Bosler
