CC Kilo, Saw Crew

While splitting up our two week project at the Home Ranch in Clark, CO our saw crew took the time to head to Hahn’s Peak to summit our first mountain. This hike was only a short drive away and not too high in elevation that any of our members coming from out of state would have to worry too much about altitude related issues. The hike started out with a rather steep grade that proved challenging to most of us coming into it. The more we ascended the mountain, the more rocky and less stable the trail became. As we finally reached the summit we were able to shelter from the extremely strong and wet winds inside of a fire lookout enclosure. Following the completion of our second and final work week at Home Ranch we all decided to head across the border to Dinosaur National Monument in Utah. Here we saw dinosaur fossils, petroglyphs, and cooled off in the green river to combat the triple digit temperatures. Sleeping in Dinosaur was a stark contrast to our Colorado camping because we didn’t fall asleep and wake up in freezing weather. This was something we all needed a break from. Now we’re on our way to Rand Colorado to do a logout project for our first 8 day hitch. Many challenges to come, and possibly more freezing weather ahead!
