Crew E: The Crosscuts are Back!

For this week's project we go to work in the Flat Tops Wilderness near Meeker, Colorado. We began our week by doing some scrubbing and clearing on a trail. It was very beautiful up there and we saw some stunning lakes.

The next day we began our first hitch completely backcountry! There were a few things that we had to learn how to do. We had to set up a bear hang with all of our food and smelly items. We also got introduced to the Whisperlite and Dragonfly stoves. We had a few technical difficulties but eventually we were able to figure out the stoves. Our main job was to crosscut up to Oyster Lake. The trail hadn't been maintained in a while so we had to do some trail searching and scouting. There were a lot of animal trails that were a bit confusing.

It was a sweet place to be when it came to the wildlife. Some of the group saw a herd of at least 100 elk! The week was truly great. It was fun to get back into crosscutting and we ended the week by heading to Moab for our weekend.
