Growth, in the wilderness...

Growth. What's it all about? Is it not agreeing with who you'll be with for the next ten weeks, but later creating the group dynamic that can't be broken? Or is it hiking fifteen miles a day in three weeks to later complete it? The last week of our project have been an example of how far the group and I went through. Our moral support have gone through some tough terrain throughout this past project.  We hiked nearly 15 miles per day on a desert-like environment. So we are bound to have conflict within the whole group. What stand out the most is this. One day, as we are hiking to our new campground, almost all of us were hiking briskly. I say "almost" because there are few of us that are not as athletic due to medical conditions. For the most that are athletic, we ignored their calls and screams for the campsite was nearby. Once everyone arrived, one crew member decided to speak up and spoke what was on her mind. In short, she was furious and frustrated that we ignored her calls of "Wait" and "Stop." Even breaking into tears, she reiterates that she has a heart condition and she exclaims that "I am not the most athletic as any of you, but I am part of this group too." I took this to heart because I had not thought about any conditions or disabilities that could hurt our group in any way, shape, or form. After her outcry, all of us apologized, accepted, and grew from this experience. No matter what obstacles will be ahead of us along the way, we still keep our morality high, and push through work and life in general. We have managed to complete the project in under three weeks and celebrated with the BLM  on the accomplishments we have made on our GIS project. I am proud of my crew, my crew leaders, and myself for pursuing the greater good and putting in the work that could have never been achieved without our group dynamic. That, is what growth is all about.
