If you were a pine tree how big would your grow rings be? From CC Lima- Fire Crew

If you were a pine tree how big would your grow rings be? This week during Fire Crew's S 2-12 saw training we have been cutting down a lot of dead pines. When a saw cuts clear a tree's trunk you can see it's growth rings exposed and figure out the tree's environmental conditions during it's life time. Since every dark ring represents a winter, the light areas that separates each winter represents the tree's growth during the the rest of the seasons. If a light area in between two winters is very big, it means the tree grew a lot during that year because it had a lot of rain and probably little competition with other trees for sunlight, whereas short white areas mean a dry year with a lot of shade causing little growth.

In a way, the outdoors, and especially work outdoors with great people is in essence a potentially long light area in between dark zones in our trunks growth rings. We are flooded with sunlight and space for growth, but it is everyone's decision to use it to grow outward like a tree.

If you were a pine tree and given sunlight and water, how big you you like your growth rings to be?
