Service Learning Crew is out and about!

The first session of Yampa Valley Service Learning Crew launched this past Monday! Already the crew has done service work all across Routt County. Right off the bat they cleaned up downtown Steamboat Main Street then on Tuesday headed to Oak Creek to give the Town Hall Shed a new coat of paint.

On Wednesday the crew began a summer long project with the Steamboat Mountain School, helping maintain the Yurt trail. The Service Learning Crew will continue to work on this project all summer long. Youth learned how to clear a trail corridor of brush and to re-bench or even out the tread.

On Thursday the crew headed to Carpenter Ranch out near Hayden. This will also be a reoccurring project throughout the summer. While weeding the pollinator garden and enjoying the scenery, youth also visited with the horses and other animals on the ranch.

The Service Learning Crew will continue to roam all over Routt County throughout their two weeks. Don't be surprised if you see this group of little crushers getting just as much work done as our Conservation Corps! Be sure to tell them thanks!
