Crew F: Thank You, Linda!

Updated: Jul 9, 2018

I came to RMYC this summer hoping to be outside all the time while working hard. Little did I expect to be learning so much outside of school.

This week we worked with Linda, a 64-year-old Land Management Technician based out of Radium Wildlife Area. Every interaction with Linda was a learning experience, and she was happy to share her wealth of knowledge with us. After explaining our task for the day Linda would explain the history of the area we were removing old barb wire fence from, telling us about the school that used to exist along the fence on the still-existing homestead up the road.

Linda's knowledge included a current view of the area as well. Linda told us the ins and outs of the train line we worked next to, filling us with many interesting facts about the area we were working in. Linda even recited poetry for us, pushing our learning past the land around us to relatable poems about loving the land and wildlife around us.

It was an immense pleasure and honor to work with Linda. Besides being a major learning experience, it was immensely inspiring to work with someone who has devoted their life to caring for the land and animals in this area.

Thank you Linda!

We love barb wire!
